Focaccia Bread Demonstration (Livestream) Fo-Ca-Ccia! Do you want to master this “showstopper” bread in your kitchen? Follow along live as Chef Les Eckert, Director of Great Lakes Culinary Institute, walks you through the process of creating focaccia. A recipe and list of ingredients and equipment needed will be provided via email prior to class so you have time to gather and measure out what you need to follow along in this class. Capture the beauty and serenity with acrylic paints on an 11 x 14 inch canvas. Artist Eleonora Hayes demonstrates her methods of combining realistic landscapes with the dreamlike emotions they evoke. You will be introduced to the basics of using acrylic paints on canvas, essential color mixing, and how to use different brushes. Taught online via Zoom. Following registration, the instructor will contact you with a zoom link and list of supplies needed for the class. Cost of the supplies is approximately $45, and will vary depending on brand. 4 Sat., Sept. 26-Oct. 17 1-2 p.m. Instructor: Eleonora Hayes $69 Pastels at Your Pace (Livestream) For beginning and intermediate pastelists: Join artist Linda Alice Dewey as she shares her 50+ years of pastel painting experience, during six practical, sit-at-the-easel Zoom sessions. Linda leads the group through the process of creating two paintings from photographs she will email to you ahead of time so you can print them out. Learn applied techniques and her own tips and tricks as well as elements of art as you paint local landscapes and seascapes. Following registration the instructor will contact you with a zoom link and an initial preparatory video on materials and set up, to be ready for the first class. Supply list requires you to order pastels and paper online. Some supplies take several weeks to arrive, so order as soon as you register. Each class can also be viewed up to several months later, so no worries if you miss one, or need to start the class later.

Watercolors on Location - Grand Traverse Commons (Face to Face) Discover the joy of plein air painting! Artists throughout history have ventured into the outdoors to become trained observers and inspire their own work. Grab your brushes, paper and pencils and let’s head outside where you will learn the process of selecting and painting a subject from life. The Grand Traverse Commons offers beautiful scenes of Kids Creek, a large diversity of interesting trees and of course amazing architecture. Gain tips and techniques on creating with watercolors. Experiment with some of the fundamentals that will take your art to the next level. The day before class, you will receive directions to the class meeting place and suggested parking at the Grand Traverse Commons. Bring a small sketchbook (9 x 12 inches or smaller), a pencil and some watercolor brushes (available at all art supply stores) to class. Watercolor paints and paper will be provided. Class will break 45 minutes for lunch on your own. Learn why you draw the way you do and discover a step-by-step method that teaches accessing the right side of the brain. Yes, you can learn to draw!
