irstly, welcome to the October issue of Weddings and Honeymoons Magazine, she’s a beauty – we’re sure you’ll agree… This is a very exciting issue for me personally, as it is my first issue as Acting Editor. As I began to work on this issue, I found myself faced with 148 blank pages, and knowing where to start is often the hardest part. Many couples feel the same way when it comes to planning their wedding. The best thing to do, I find, is to just begin. At the start, when you have hundreds of micro-choices to make, planning your day can feel overwhelming, but break it down into sections and once you make a start, the rest will follow. Whatever stage of planning you are at, we are here to help and guide you so that you can have what will be the best (albeit, probably the most expensive!) day of your lives. If you are right at the beginning of your wedding planning journey, you might be looking to set the date and find your perfect wedding venue. Check out our Best of British Venues feature on page 100. Or you might be ready to find your dream dress? You’ll find tons of dress inspiration through pages 21 to 29 and the chance to win your bridal gown from the boutique Along Came Eve on page 34. For ideas on incorporating your personality into your day, read our ‘Your day, Your Way’ feature on page 54 – it is your wedding after all, there are no wrong decisions! If you are thinking, after over a year of travel restrictions, that you want to plan a destination wedding (and who could blame you) head to page 110 for top tips on planning a wedding abroad. Also, pages 116-121 are filled with pull-out-all-the-stops destination wedding venues and suppliers. Creating hair styles for a bride is always a joy for me, not only making her look her best but also ensuring that she feels her best. After all, her bridal hairstyle has to not only complement the gown but also last from day to night. Brides want a look that once it’s done, it’s done and they can forget about their hair and enjoy their special day. As the expert hair correspondent for Sky News, I’ve been delighted to be at the last three royal weddings, including HRH Prince William and Duchess Kate’s, as well as Harry and Meghan’s, reporting on the bridal hairstyles. It’s been no surprise that these royal brides have opted for classic, elegant hair styles that will stand the test of time. I’m often asked for my top tips to achieve the perfect bridal style. It’s not an easy task, as so much depends on the wedding dress, the bride’s face shape, her body shape and, of course, the statement she wants to make. One thing is for sure, just like you would prepare your body and skin to look and feel your best, you need to prepare the hair too. Starting your bridal hair preparation early will ensure that the condition, cut and colour will all score high marks and create the perfect bridal hair style. PRACTICE FOR PERFECTION It’s a good idea to arrange a trial run with your hairdresser to ensure you’re totally happy and comfortable with your chosen hairstyle. Take pictures of your gown, veil and makeup brief to your appointment to help the stylist get a good idea of your overall look, and allow them to create a style that complements the rest of your outfit. A consultation is key when working on

ARE YOU A HAIR UP OR HAIR DOWN KIND OF BRIDE? TAKE INSPO FROM THESE FLAWLESS STYLES
Details bridal styles. Generally, when I advise brides, it’s all about what is going to suit their body and face shape. For fuller figured brides, a hairstyle with some height on top works well to accentuate the overall look, while for a bride wearing her hair down I recommend a few strands secured back off the face, this not only looks pretty but makes for a practical style as it stops the hair from blowing around the face – especially important for those constant air and cheek kisses given by guests! MORE, MORE, MORE I’m a huge fan of hair extensions to not only add length, fullness and colour, but also for adding volume to a hair-up style. Even a simple ballerina bun that sits low in the neck can be exaggerated by adding in a few hair extensions. I use (and can recommend) Racoon Hair Extensions for their great hair quality, options for custom colouring, and their ethical approach. There are different types of hair extensions for brides, from long lasting techniques that can last for months to temporary weft solutions that can be used just for the special day and typically last a few washes before being taken out. TWO-IN-ONE I like to give the bride options with a simple change of hair look for the evening that still complements her gown and head dress or, if she’s changing in to a second outfit, give her a new hair look. This is often the opposite of the first look, so if the hair is worn down during the day, a simple up-do can create a great second look for the evening celebrations. TIME IT RIGHT Most weddings involve a series of planning stages, spreadsheets and copious notes. These should include the visits to the salon for cut, colour and trial sessions. Avoid disappointment and ensure your appointments are booked well in advance. I recommend a cut and colour two to three weeks before the big day. Follow a hair care regime, including deep conditioning masks, de-frizzing solutions and glossing appointments to ensure your hair looks in optimum health and perfectly toned. MOOD BOARD It’s a great idea to collect images of the type of looks you like to
discuss with your stylist and explore if they will work for your hair type. You want to make sure that your husband recognises you when you walk down the aisle, subtly teasing little questions like “do you like my hair up?” without giving the game away is a good idea. When creating mood boards, look for images of hair that is similar to yours. If you are brunette and only point out images of blondes the chances are the textures and tones will be completely different, so even if the hair look is replicated it won’t have the same overall effect. UP OR DOWN? It's one of the biggest questions for most brides, and a combination of half-up, half-down is a bridal favourite – just as Kate Middleton and her chief bridesmaid Pippa wore their hair. It’s a practical solution as it ensures the hair is secured away from the face, so there’s no strands over your face for the official pictures, and you won’t have to constantly move your hair out of your face. The look can also subtly be built up at the crown for added height, giving the illusion of a slimmer silhouette. It also gives the cheekbones a lift. DO IT YOURSELF One bride in particular taught me a good lesson when I gave her a box of hair grips and asked her to use the grips to arrange her hair how she imagined wearing it. Giving her a hand mirror so she could see the hair from every angle, she arranged her hair exactly how she thought she wanted it, which gave me the opportunity to create a better version of the look. Use three way mirrors or a hand mirror to make sure your hair is perfect from every angle. DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND When it comes to hair accessories less is often more. Simple sparkling bands or tiaras tend to complement any hair look with little sparkling grips or slides beautifully holding back pieces of hair and securing up-dos. If floral headpieces are more your thing, think about using silk flowers rather than fresh flowers as they often wilt in the heat. Dos and Don'ts of Seven need-to-know rules DO make sure you make it clear how to reply, giving all your contact details, including email and phone number, or include a traditional RSVP card with your invitations for guests to send back to you with their response.

DO give information about the venue including the address, directions, and the postcode for sat nav. You could even go as far as to include a map with specific instructions if it’s tricky to find. DO provide information about your gift list, unless you are asking for money. If that’s the case, make sure you word it sensitively and expect to get some random gifts anyway! DO expect to chase a lot of people for their response. It happens with every wedding. DON’T think that you have to stick to something stiff and formal. Your invitations will set the tone for the rest of your wedding, so if you’re a laid-back kind of couple after a laid-back kind of vibe, make it clear from the start. DON’T be vague about who you are inviting, you should make it crystal clear. So instead of ‘and family’ you should name the individuals. The same goes for a partner’s name. If it’s just ‘Plus One’ you lose control over who will actually be at your wedding. DON’T be offended if anyone you invite can’t come and declines your invitation. There could be any number of reasons, including financial, childcare, a clash of dates or simply that social occasions like weddings are overwhelming for some people.

How to create the perfect Created in the American southwest, but to be enjoyed round the world, we bring you the Blame Her Margarita!
Margarita
Before we begin, you should know that this margarita was created at Blame Her Ranch outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico many years ago! You will also have to accept the fact that the perfect Margarita requires a bit more attention and unique ingredients. However, with complexity, comes perfection! Here goes: INGREDIENTS
• Bamboo skewers • Crushed ice • Corkcicle cup. You can use any glass, but a corkcicle cup keeps the perfect maragarita cold for up to eight hours. At Blame Her Ranch we have our own Corkcicle • Shishito peppers • Cherry tomatoes • Olive oil spray • Sea salt • Worm salt. This is optional, of course, but keeps the tequila worm tradition alive • Margarita salt can be used as a replacement for worm salt • Mezcal (not tequila) to provide a smoky taste • Margarita mix. We use Santa Fe margarita mix but if you can’t find that, simply choose a high-quality lime juice-based mix • Grand Marnier • Sliced limes • Long decorative toothpicks or stirrers
This is the ‘BHR Shishito Margarita’. Every great wedding needs a signature cocktail and we think your guests will enjoy this special drink, especially given that the ingredients and complexity add to the mystique of your special day!
METHOD
Step 1: Grilling No other margarita we are aware of requires you to grill the condiments, but this is an essential first step that adds to the flavour and smokiness of this drink. Soak the bamboo skewers in water for 5-10 minutes (this prevents them from burning). Then build two separate skewers – one with Shishito peppers and the other with cherry tomatoes. Shishito peppers have enormous flavour but aren’t too hot or spicy – a substitute could be Anaheim Chili Peppers because Shishito peppers are hard to find in some parts of the world. After building the two skewers, spray them with olive oil and sprinkle a little sea salt on both. You are now ready to grill both skewers on your preheated BBQ until they show grill marks on both sides. Remove from grill and set aside. Step 2: Corkcicle Preparation Again, we prefer the Corkcicle cup, but any cup will do. Take the worm salt and pour it into a small dish. Cut the limes into four pieces. Take one lime slice and cut into the centre of it so it can be easily put on the rim of the Corkcicle cup. Slide the lime slice around the rim of the Corkcicle cup and remove the lime slice. Then take the Corkcicle cup, turn it upside down and dip the rim of the cup into the worm salt. If you don’t like the traditional worm salt accent, feel free to replace it with normal margarita salt. But you are giving up one of the unique and talked about ingredients to the perfect margarita. And, you’ll never taste the worm, I promise! Step 3: Mixing Add crushed ice all the way to the top of the Corkcicle cup. Then add a shot and a half (don’t wimp out here) of Mezcal. Then take your premium margarita mix and fill the remainder of the cup up to a quarter of an inch from the top. Finally, pour a splash of Grand Mariner on top for extra flavour. Step 4: Cocktail Garnishing This is the step that visually differentiates our margarita from all the rest. First, take one of the lime slices and set it on the rim of the cup, then take your grilled Shishito pepper and cherry tomatoes and skewer them onto your long toothpick or stirrer. It should be placed in this order: cherry tomato, Shishito pepper, cherry tomato. Set the garnished toothpick on the top of the Corkcicle cup. Explain to guests that the smoky smell and taste come from both the Mezcal and grilled condiments.

A wild picnic in the midst of the Highlands, an inspiration to elope to the magical mountains of Scotland PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALIA PAIENDA The inspiration for this photoshoot came from the idea of an adventurous elopement wedding, with a poetic and boho theme. We wanted to combine something wild with a fashion twist. The result speaks for itself. A modern, embroidered wedding dress, with oversized sleeves and a glamorous neckline, blended with beautiful flowers unveiling autumnal and earthy shades, in the middle of the wilderness was all-out romantic. The Persian carpet brought an ethnic touch to the styling. The hair and make-up artist created a glowing bridal look with strong eyebrows, an intense wine coloured lip (to match the dahlias), and dewey skin for a fresh look. The oversized crystal and pearl earrings added the perfect, feminine, glamorous touch to complete the boho aesthetic.

FOLLOW YOUR HEARTS After the wedding they’d originally planned was cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions, Natasha and Richard seized the opportunity to stop and consider what it was they truly wanted from their celebrations. “We’d originally picked a beautiful Tudor pub in Stratford upon Avon for our reception – we wanted somewhere traditional and low key. So one Sunday morning, we sat down together and thought about what that really meant – and then I found Hill Farmhouse online!”, grins Natasha. “It gave me instant butterflies. When we went to see the venue it was a typical January day, pouring with rain, and windy, but we both loved it. It would only be more amazing come May.” AISLE STYLE Channelling her instinctively whimsical style, the bride glowed in a figure-hugging design with a romantic puddle train, pretty capped sleeves and lace detailing. A classic up-do completed her look, while her groom complemented the country style in a traditional check suit. GOLDEN DAY Natasha and Richard’s colour scheme was inspired by just one thing: sunflowers. “They’re my favourite flower, but they also

remind me of Richard, because he says I have a big head too,” laughs Natasha. “I love eucalyptus and thought that would look lovely against all the venue’s dark wood and with the sunflowers too. The rustic feel was perfect.” The bride decorated for the big day with the help of Nadine from Nerissa Eve. “They were the best people to have around and their décor barn was like Aladdin’s cave!” THREE-DAY EXTRAVAGANZA “When we decided to make our wedding a weekend event, I was very conscious of not letting our budget run away with us, as we’d now have costs for three days. But I love a bargain and have a passion for organising, plus I had an Excel spreadsheet with me every step of the way,” Natasha laughs. We decided to invest in what mattered most – to me, that was a photographer and videographer, I love to make and document memories.” The couple celebrated with close friends on the Friday before their wedding, where attendees were wowed by a caricaturist. Then as the big day arrived, they broke the ice for their guests with a pub gathering before the ceremony and reception. Bringing the celebrations to a close on the Sunday with a family-style fun day, complete with bouncy castle, to cater to every generation. WH

SETTING THE SCENE After a romantic balcony-top proposal in Spain, Rebecca and Chris set their sights closer to home for the location of their dream day. “I had been walking up Nicky Nook most of my life,” smiles Rebecca. “I love that part of Lancashire. When we saw our venue, it was still a barn full of machinery, but I could see the vision and the work they did exceeded my expectations. It was a rustic venue, exactly what we wanted, and looked stunning decorated for our wedding day.”
“We named each table after mountains we have climbed together.”
BOHEMIAN BLISS This couple was all about creating a totally relaxed, yet beautiful wedding day. After searching for a style with bohemian flair to glide down the aisle in, Rebecca found ‘the one’ at Foxglove Brides near Preston. “It was the ‘Edith’ style by LouLou. I wanted long sleeves, simple lace and a dress I could dance in!” Coupled with her bridesmaids in soft pink dresses and airy gypsophila floral crowns, and the groom looking dashing in a pale blue tweed ensemble, the wedding party were perfectly styled for their springtime celebration.

BLOOMING BEAUTIFUL The bride opted for a quintessentially English, fragrant bouquet filled with garden roses, forget-me-nots and even thistles as a nod to her something blue. Flowers spilled down the couple’s decadent naked chocolate cake too, adding to the rustic country theme. PARTY TIME With a moreish hog roast giving guests plenty of fuel for dancing, the couple’s band of choice, Indie Trix, took to the stage. “Mum provided flip flops in case anyone had weary feet,” Rebecca laughs. “The band were brilliant and we really did dance the night away.” HONEYMOON After the wedding, the couple continued with their countryside theme with a minimoon in Nottingham’s Sherwood Forest. “In the summer, we’ll be jetting off to Iceland and New York for a twin-centre honeymoon,” the newlyweds grin. Best of the West CORNISH PROPOSAL For Rosie and Michael, the South West holds a special place in their hearts, so it only made sense for Michael to propose during a stay at Cornwall’s Watergate Bay Hotel. “I never feel happier than when I’m by the sea in my favourite place, it felt so right,” smiles the bride. IRRESISTIBLY INTIMATE After postponing their wedding from June 2020 to the following year, the couple also embraced the requirements for a smaller scale guest list. “We were both feeling overwhelmed by the size of our wedding the first time around. Having a more intimate celebration felt so much more relaxed, ultimately it was more what we wanted, so we’re lucky that decision was made for us, really.” WEDDING WARDROBE The bride’s mum gifted her the bridal gown of her choice, with Rosie falling for a Stephanie Allin design. “The designer is very much my style, so I loved all her dresses. My gown had a beautiful blush tone underneath, which is slightly less traditional, and the floral style complemented our day perfectly. Mike said it was exactly what he thought I’d choose, and he was right!” Rosie was joined by bridesmaids wearing gowns they’d chosen from Maids to Measure, and on the big day, close friend and makeup artist Aimee took care of their beauty looks, with stylist Hannah finishing their locks. “I felt like a princess with my half-up plait, floral hairband and loose curls.” LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT It took this bold couple only one venue visit to

FINDING THE ONE When Melissa stepped into the Dress Me Pretty Bridal Rooms, she had a surprise in store. “I had my heart set on a slinky Charlie Brear number, with no veil and simple shoes. I ended up with a ballgown, a two-tier veil and sparkly shoes after a trip to New York,” laughs the bride. “I tried on the ballgown to appease my mum and grandma and I just had an overwhelming feeling of being a bride.”

THE ‘I DO’S Melissa and Richard opted for a charming church ceremony for their Easter weekend wedding. “We had to get married at 2pm because of how the religious days fell. It was lovely to have no rush to get ready, although I’m told Richard was a bag of nerves! Driving to the church, it felt amazing that 18 months of planning were about to come together, although we had a no-nonsense vicar, and I was running late, so there’s a brilliant picture of me running to the church door!” the bride laughs. FRESH AND FLORAL The couple styled their celebrations at Moxhull Hall around a pared-back palette of white and green. “The top table backdrop was just amazing, as was my bouquet. My grandma is green fingered, so I gifted it to her the morning after the wedding and she was even able to pot up one of the succulents from my bouquet – it’s still growing in her kitchen now.”

RAISE A TOAST After a delicious banquet served by Moxhull Hall, who the couple chose for their fantastic foodie reputation, it was time for the speeches. “They were brilliant,” recalls Melissa. “The best man had written a great poem, which certainly isn’t appropriate to repeat here.” TUNE IN The couple embraced their passion for Motown tunes when choosing the band for their wedding, Funk the Revolution. After sharing their first dance to a cover of Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’, the dance floor was full all night. “I’ve always enjoyed wedding bands,” smiles the bride. “I find it motivates guests to get on their feet and it’s wonderful to see them enjoying the music.” PICTURE THIS “We’d seen Charlotte at Indie Love Photography document Richard’s cousin’s wedding. Home is Where the Heart Is Very bunny - that’s how bride Olivia would describe the moment James proposed: “I woke up on Christmas morning and heard James rustling about. He brought our house rabbit Lily in and she had a loose ribbon round her neck with the ring on it. I had to ask a few times if he was serious!” Olivia laughs. HOME SWEET HOME Carving their own path and following their hearts, this bride and groom-to-be didn’t opt for a purpose-designed wedding venue. Instead, they tied the knot in their village church and then held the celebrations for 55 guests in Olivia’s parent’s garden. “It was the perfect venue, the glorious big garden and a field for campers. We had a beautiful marquee from Godney Marquees and I just felt so relaxed being at home. We wanted an intimate wedding with our nearest and dearest.” “Our neighbour brought our dog to the ceremony and we had a really special moment walking back from the church down the country lane together. It was a moment to enjoy each other’s company after our emotional ceremony as villagers waved us home from the doorstep.” FINDING THE ONE With lockdown rules lifting, Olivia was all-set

to find her dream dress with three months to go before the wedding. “When I was younger, I used to drive past the Sassi Holford boutique on my way to school. There were always two gowns in the window and we’d pick our favourite. So to find my wedding dress there was wonderful,” Olivia smiles. She stunned in her bridal gown and Rainbow Club shoes, coupled with a delicate lace jacket for the ceremony. Her groom sported a sage green Moss Bros suit, perfect for their country wedding. ALL YOU CAN EAT “I’m vegan so it was important that I could eat everything at our wedding,” explains Olivia. “We wanted to show our guests how delicious a vegan menu could be, with a gorgeous spread in the centre of each table of salads, tarts, flat breads and more. Here are some ideas we have seen implemented at our ranch and elsewhere that can truly differentiate your wedding from all others. TEQUILA DONKEY Who needs waiters? In New Mexico, we have a tradition where a donkey delivers the ceremonial tequila. Obviously, this is an outdoor event and people just love petting the donkey, as well as getting a blast of tequila. FOOD TRUCK ENDING Most weddings opt to have the classic catered event which is great and very traditional. But, a few of our guests have had a late-night food truck come up and serve something special at the end of the night. It can be anything from grilled cheese sandwiches to rolled ice cream or even a slice of pizza. Make it special and make it a fun one-item treat that is memorable to you, the couple. Maybe something tied to the history of your relationship? INVITE THE WHITE HOUSE Here is something you probably did not know. You can invite the President and First Lady to your wedding and if you send the invitation six weeks or more in advance, you will get a congratulatory note in return. GAMES FOR ALL CHILDREN At BHR, we have more than just a dance floor. We offer fun lawn games like bean bag toss, giant Jenga, and even a golf driving range. Look for a venue that goes beyond the traditional. Everyone is a kid at heart!
SPECIAL MUSICAL GROUP While you might have a DJ or band for dancing, insert a Mariachi Band or an A-cappella Group to perform. At our son’s wedding (he married a Columbian), we had a Columbian dance group perform, and they put on a very lively and memorable show. BURY THE BOURBON (TEQUILA) Want some extra help with good weather? There is a southern tradition in the States that suggests burying a bottle of bourbon upside down exactly one month before the big day at the wedding site will prevent storms and rainy weather. To seal the deal, you just need to dig it up and share a swig in front of all your guests. Of course, at BHR we like to do it with tequila vs bourbon… but you get it! HIRE A PAINTER In Santa Fe, we have over 250 galleries and many local artists. You can hire a professional to paint an original watercolour or oil painting of your wedding banquet. It is perfect on a site like BHR’s great lawn. TAKE THE CHILL OFF WITH A CIDER STATION Okay, you will most likely have a bar, but why not have something to warm up the guests, especially on those spring and fall evenings with a cider station? Yes, you can add a little booze! Okay, I can go on and on, but the take-away should be, don’t go with something just traditional or boring, add a little special kick to your memorable day! WH

lanning on leaving the village church in your rear-view mirror and taking your celebration to warmer climes? From guaranteed sunshine and sentimental value to a two-for-one wedding and honeymoon, there are lots of reasons why couples choose to wed abroad, but planning it is no easy feat. We sat down with luxury destination wedding planner, Hayleigh Goodman-Smith of ivorygoat, to get her advice on making the most of the big occasion.
WELCOME GUESTS IN STYLE Since getting to your wedding takes more commitment than a last-minute dash down the motorway, forgetful guests will be thankful when they arrive at their hotel room to a thoughtful welcome bag of easy-to-forget essentials. Flip-flops, sun cream, freshen-up kits including face wipes and mini atomisers, paracetamol, hand-held fans and a guide to the local area are nice touches.
HIRE A PRO Finding suppliers that you trust implicitly is key for any couple, and forging a strong working relationship with them is nothing short of essential when you’re tying the knot, hundreds and thousands of miles away from home. Find a planner who specialises in weddings abroad and who truly knows the region. Try to meet them in person, at least once if you can – but if not, be sure to talk through your ideas on Zoom before moving on to email.
EMBRACE YOUR DESTINATION Because what’s the point of going abroad if you’re just going to recreate a typically English wedding, right? You picked your location for a reason, so soak up the culture, dine on the fabulous food, incorporate the local customs… Weddings (and their timings) tend to be a lot more relaxed in other countries, so if you’re usually one for military precision, be prepared to throw out the rulebook and try to embrace a more relaxed affair.
INVEST IN WEDDING INSURANCE Securing your wedding insurance will not only protect you financially and emotionally, but some venues abroad even require it. Ensure you’re clear on the policy and exactly what it includes. Don’t leave it until the last minute – shop around if you can.

BOOK A MASSAGE… OR THREE! The best way to ensure that you’re totally relaxed in time for the big day is to break up your schedule with at least two days of downtime before your guests arrive. So, book those massages, relax by the pool, chill in the spa… you’ll have beaten any potential jetlag before you know it.

STICK TO HAND LUGGAGE Arriving at your destination only to realise that your wedding dress is still sitting on the runway at Heathrow must be every bride’s worst nightmare – which is why carrying all your valuables, including your bridal attire and legal documents, with you is the best option. Some boutiques even provide carriage boxes designed to fit the dimensions of most airlines requirements. HOST A PRE-WEDDING PARTY Dinner and drinks the night before the big day is a great way to introduce your guests to one another. Keeping it relaxed with a barbecue or buffet, serving up regional delicacies and local cocktails will get your guests in the holiday spirit. EXTEND THE FUN If you have time to spare, why not plan a fun bonding session with a local tour, boat ride, flower workshop or wine-tasting? Guests will appreciate a few extra activities on the itinerary but remember to allow plenty of downtime for all of you to enjoy, too.
KEEP THINGS COOL As the hours on either side of midday are peak sunburn windows, why not consider making the most of a long, lazy morning and having a late afternoon ceremony, or tying the knot underneath a marquee? If an open-air, toesin-the-sand celebration is what you’ve always dreamed of, just make sure your guests have parasols on hand. STAY LOCAL, SAVE BIG Sticking with local flowers and local produce for your wedding breakfast will not only help keep your budget down but add authenticity to your day, too. Consider tasty tapas in Spain (preceremony Sangria, anyone?), beautiful bottles of local olive oil as favours in Tuscany or exotic blooms in the tropics. BE A BOLD BRIDE Thought beach weddings were just about boho dresses and simple slips? If you want a princess dress, girl, you can wear a princess dress. There is room on the shore for ballgowns and beading. Just ask your boutique to provide a hoop to keep it away from your legs and keep you cool in the process. There’s no reason why a beach ensemble can’t break the rules…

TRY SOME HIGH-TECH TOUCHES Just as it has across all elements of the pandemic, technology will play a role in destination weddings, in a bid to include friends and family members who haven’t been able to make it. From up-to-theminute photo uploads to live streaming of the vows, first dance and speeches, consider including a social media element into your day – it’s also a perfect way to keep all your memories in one place. PICK HANDY FAVOURS For a useful and authentic favour idea, dish out beautiful fans in your colour scheme. Personalise them with your guests’ names or print the order of service on them and place one on each seat at the ceremony. We’ve found that as well as keeping everyone cool, they look super pretty in photos. WRITE OFF THE MORNING AFTER… Your guests will most definitely appreciate a lie-in. Take the opportunity to enjoy breakfast a deux (ideally in bed!) and arrange a big brunch gettogether in the afternoon instead. GO WITH THE FLOW Most importantly, you must enjoy it. When you plan a destination wedding, you do almost have to accept that something could go not quite according to plan – but leave your inner control freak at home if you can and be prepared to let the small stuff go. And when you’ve found the right planner, you'll know your day is safe in their hands. You’re there to celebrate and have fun, and that’s the most important thing! WH

Cowboy At Blame Her Ranch in New Mexico originality and style are important… here are a few pointers

or most of you, Cowboy Chic may be an oxymoron. But this conflict of terms is what makes a cowboy chic wedding so special. It’s important, before we start, that you understand that the right venue is critical to a cowboy chic wedding. You certainly are not going to pull off a cowboy chic wedding at your local hotel ballroom or banquet hall. You need an outdoor or rustic venue that goes with the theme. If not, you will be fighting with, and trying to do something inconsistent with, your surroundings. At Blame Her Ranch, we cater to couples, both internationally and locally, that want a unique setting for their special day. Not all of them are cowboy chic, but the majority of our weddings utilize special accents that make the wedding truly “boot and black tie” oriented. Okay with that said, let us share with you some fantastic ways in which cowboy chic weddings have been done at BHR. FLOWER GIRL AND RING BEARER
These little cuties always steal the show, but by putting them in fancy clothes and cowboy boots, everyone will “Ooh and Aah” as they walk down the aisle. Make sure that the ring bearer is wearing a hat and the flower girl is picking the flower petals from a cowboy hat! RIDE IN STYLE
For the little ones, find a little wagon and decorate it so that the ring bearer and flower girl can ride in style down the aisle. On the back of the wagon put a little sign out that says, “Here Comes The Bride”. BOOT FLOWER VESSELS
You can always find old boots at any goodwill or consignment store. Your florist can turn them into flower vessels to line the aisle down to the nuptials area. They can even be set on small logs to give them more height and prominence. One additional idea is to use flowers in boots as the table centerpieces. Super fun!

Use masonry jars for glasses and have a chalkboard sign that gives your guests different beer choices through a keg dispensing system. Serving yourself on tap will be real fun for your guests – make sure it’s overseen by a licensed bartender. POPCORN BAR
Nothing says cowboy chic more than old fashion popcorn presented and displayed in individual jars or lined wooden baskets. To make it truly trendy, add unique flavoured popcorn like bbq, jalapeño, and dill pickle. BLACK TIE
While cowboy boots and hats are critically important to cowboy chic weddings, contrast those elements with more traditional wedding gowns, bridesmaid’s dresses and tuxes. You can add a little bling by using Bolo ties! HAY RIDES
Leaving is just as important as arriving. Most local vendors can recommend a horse-drawn wagon for their guests. Throw in a little hay and a sign “Just Married” for the perfect exit on your big and stylish day. We hope we have convinced those who are sceptical about a rustic wedding with some of these ideas. It will surely set your wedding apart from the traditional ones, so go out there and find the right venue or location to make your cowboy chic wedding a reality. WH

Why be so formal and have guests sign a traditional Guest Book? Instead, use small bottles and allow your guests to write their own message and best wishes for you. A message in a bottle is a lot more fun and original.

N
o matter where you are in Nova Scotia, you’re never more than 50km from the sea, so it comes as no surprise that the province has been nicknamed Canada’s Ocean Playground. This is a land that was built around the sea: fisherman’s stories, fresh lobster, pretty lighthouses, and a cool breeze that almost tastes like saltwater taffy. Whether for a long weekend exploring the vibrant capital or weeks spent road tripping along the coast, honeymooners who choose Nova Scotia are in for the sweetest maritime adventure. Halifax is the capital; direct flights from London take just under six hours, making it a perfect base for the first few days of your honeymoon. While the city has so much history (expect to see fortresses and museums tied to its seafaring history) it’s also peppered with modern architecture, chic cocktail bars and the stray notes of local musicians caught on that delicious breeze. And this is only the very start of the adventure. The province has over 23,000km of roads. LUNENBURG, MAHONE BAY AND PEGGY’S COVE
Some of Nova Scotia’s most treasured sites are within an hour of Halifax. This makes even a mini-moon possible for couples who are short on time. A long weekend in Nova Scotia should always include a bitesize adventure to the iconic Peggy’s Cove and the charming towns of Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. Peggy’s Cove is, without a doubt, Canada’s most famous lighthouse and despite being the obvious main attraction, expect to find bagpipers, homemade ice cream shops, and some delicious lobster restaurants. Drive a little further and you’ll find Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. A minimoon in Ibiza
WHERE DID YOU HONEYMOON? We had a lovely minimoon in Ibiza, Spain.
WHERE DID YOU STAY? We stayed at Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay, ideally placed on the shores of Talamanca Bay. This hotel is perfect for a tranquil stay, with direct access to the sandy beach and just a short stroll from Ibiza's old town. WHAT DID YOU GET UP TO? Ultimately, we needed some rest and relaxation to recharge our minds, bodies and souls. The lead up to our wedding was hectic and the emotion of the day itself was overwhelming. We wanted some quality time together with delicious food, exceptional service and knock out cocktails. WHICH PLACES DID YOU VISIT? El Chringguito Es Cavallet – one of our favourite beach clubs in Ibiza – it has great ambience and fabulous food. Amante Beach Club – boujee and brilliant. Casa Maca – everything about this restaurant is exceptional, the food is sensational, the setting sublime and the service is wonderful, this truly is a MUST! A Mi Manera – very romantic, exquisite food, wonderful surroundings and fantastic service. Nobu Restaurant –glamorous setting under the stars overlooking the Ibiza Bay and the food is sublime, the Wagyu beef is a must-try! Las Dos Lunas –a 40-year-old, family-run Italian restaurant - offering delicious food, a great wine list and a relaxed vibe. El Olivo Mio, in the old town of Ibiza, is very atmospheric and wonderful food. Six Senses Spa – probably the best massage we have ever had and we have had a few!

WHAT DID YOU EAT? We are such foodies so we literally ate everything! The food was so fresh and delicious. As we stayed at the Nobu we had a lot of sushi but their truffle pizza is out of this world, too. The Wagyu Beef is an absolute must! At Casa Maca, the meat is exceptional and the truffle mash will blow your mind! The courgette flowers at A Mi Manera are picked from their phenomenal vegetable garden, they are something you don’t want to miss. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? Our original honeymoon was meant to be in St Barts at the Villa Marie but as our wedding kept being postponed due to the current pandemic, we found ourselves pushing our St Barts honeymoon until early next year and wanted to go somewhere not too far away, with glorious sunshine, a fabulous 5* hotel and exquisite food. We also love the fact that Ibiza has two sides to the island, you can dance all night long or have a calm and romantic time and enjoy the chilled-out Ibiza vibe. We love the island and the hotel was just fabulous. A FEW SPECIAL MOMENTS OF THE TRIP? Casa Maca Restaurant is a memorable experience, everything about it was just sublime. We had such a special time; the hotel is really such a wonderful place and they make you feel like royalty. The spa at the Nobu is run by the Six Senses, it has a private area for the sauna and steam before your treatments. It is very private and intimate. The massages are phenomenal, sending you into a world of calm and tranquillity. We highly recommend Ibiza and especially The Nobu Ibiza Bay Hotel for couples. WH
