Ed's Letter elcome to the year of weddings! In 2022 we are expecting to see a wedding boom, with so many rescheduled weddings due to Covid-19 and tons more newly engaged couples eager to say ‘I do’. Weddings are joyous, exciting, emotional, nerve-racking, life-changing, awesome days filled with so much love. Lots of hard work goes into creating the perfect wedding day, from working out the guest list and checking off the big things on your to-do list (like the venue and the dress) to finding the finishing touches to your centrepieces. The big day is often months, if not years, in the making, and the pressure to get everything just right can feel monumental. Of course, ‘just right’ will look different to each individual couple, but it is safe to say wedding days are perfect days.

Many married couples say, after their wedding, that they are so glad to have chosen a great photographer or to have hired a videographer so that they can relive the day over and over again. In this issue, we have spoken to a handful of outstanding photographers (page 60) to help you think about the questions you need to ask when choosing your own photographer. For my own wedding, saying yes to our wedding photographer, Amber Leach from Liberty Pearl Photo & Film Collective, was an important decision and it was one we didn’t make lightly. A good photographer will be able to transport you straight back to the day and all of the emotions you were feeling through their images, which is exactly what Amber managed to do. This month we have teamed up with Liberty Pearl Photo & Film Collective to bring you the chance to win your wedding photography package, head to page 66 for details on how to enter. What happens when acclaimed shoe designer Aruna Seth gets married? Well, it includes 11 dresses, 12 pairs of bespoke shoes, and becomes a five day event in Lake Como!

SETTING THE SCENE This glamorous couple headed to the glittering shores of arguably the most luxurious of the Italian Lakes, Lake Como, for their destination wedding. “We happened to visit Villa Erba on a trip to Lake Como and instantly fell in love with the breath-taking architecture. We knew we wanted to hold our white wedding ceremony here. It’s a beautiful 19th-century villa and has featured in many Hollywood movies!” Aruna explains. The couple were joined by 100 of their nearest and dearest guests to celebrate for their September wedding. “Originally, we’d invited 250 people, but travelling from Singapore, India and the USA, not everyone was able to make it. What mattered most to us was that they sent their love and good wishes.” 32

AISLE STYLE Most brides will have a heartfelt tale from the moment they found ‘the one’, the wedding dress they’d glide down the aisle in. But for Aruna, that magic and romance was multiplied by eleven! “I had a few beautiful dresses – 11 to be exact. It was a collection from designers around the world, with my favourites being the ‘Flores’ pink tulle gown from British designer Suzanne Neville, and the white dress I wore for the ceremony, a two-piece tulle and Swarovski design by Zuhair Murad.” The bride, who is also the designer behind Aruna Seth Shoes, added a French Chantilly lace veil for her ‘something old’ – “the lace was repurposed from my previous bridal shoe collections” she smiles – and emerald and diamond earrings for her ‘something new’. Of course, the bride designed her own bespoke pair of shoes for the occasion too: “I was lucky enough to wear my own Aruna Seth Shoes – they have special cashmere-like padding in the sole, so I could dance the night away in glamorous comfort. I wore my limited-edition, Swarovski-embellished ‘BELLE’ pumps for my white ceremony, and they felt like I was dancing on air.”

Aruna danced down the aisle towards her groom Thomas to the beautiful tune of ‘Kissing You’ by Des’ree. “It was made extra special as we had an Italian opera singer performing a rendition of the song for us, it brought the wedding to life. Walking down the aisle, taking in the moment and seeing our family and friends’ faces, and then seeing my husband-to-be Thomas, and knowing he was the person I wished to spend the rest of my life with, it was amazing.”

IT TAKES TWO For Aruna and Thomas, their perfect wedding was shaped by not one ceremony, but two. “We had a beautiful white ceremony with an elegant black tie Italian secret garden theme, as well as an Indian ceremony, which had more of an outdoor party style with bursts of colour, everyone looked amazing in their vibrant sarees and kurtas. To have them both was the best decision we made, they were such different experiences to share.”

HAPPILY EVER AFTER The couple celebrated late into the night after sharing their first dance to the song playing when Thomas dropped Aruna home from their very first date – ‘All My Life’ by KCI and Jojo. After their dream wedding in Lake Como, the couple set their sights on a honeymoon in the Maldives. “Lake Como has so many beautiful villas, it will make your wedding dreams come true,” the newlyweds smile. he invites have been sent, the cake ordered and your wedding checklist is starting to look somewhat complete. Now it’s time to focus on the finer details. Something that may not have crossed your mind is how to make sure your make-up works with your photography. Fear not. We have you covered. Skincare is and will always be the most important step in your makeup routine. Well primed skin will give you a perfect base to apply your make-up onto and ensure that your make-up lasts well into the evening celebrations. When priming your skin be mindful of SPF. While we know the importance of protecting the skin against harmful UV rays, certain ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium oxide will cause camera flash back - that dreaded white ghostly appearance in photos, a look you definitely want to avoid! Another great benefit to making sure that you have a finely tuned skincare routine is that your skin will glow naturally. It may be tempting to use frosty highlighters to achieve a radiant glow, but be warned many of these can also contribute to makeup flashback and

you'll look washed out when you look back at your photographs. Your photographer will be capturing your memories at various moments throughout the day. Whether you are outside sipping Champagne with loved ones or dancing to Whitney Houston ‘I will always love you’, defining your features with highlighting and contouring techniques will guarantee that you look flawless in all of those moments. Opting for products one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone for highlighting areas and products one or two shades darker for contouring will give the best results. To ensure your make-up photographs seamlessly, focus on blending each product throughly. A damp make-up sponge works well with foundation and cream products, while brushes are great for powder products. Pro tip! The fluffier the brush the better the blend. Finish your make-up application by setting it in place with a matte powder. Translucent powders are better as they won’t alter the tone of the make-up that you have applied. Don’t forget about camera flashback! Watch out for silica, an ingredient which can be found in powders, and opt for a product without it. WH

They don’t all have to be the same filler or the same foliage because that will look very boring indeed, but I wouldn’t go for all different things either. A bit of a variety if you can, but not every single stem different. YOU WILL NEED • 7 stems flowers • 7 stems foliage • 7 seedheads stems or fruits • String or garden twine • Brown paper

You can put it together in your hand, but remember to takes the leaves off the stem because they really will get in the way otherwise. Lay out all your flowers and bits of greenery on a table in front of you, and take up the first one in your nondominant hand. Use your other hand to pick up and add the different stems, alternating foliage, filler and flowers so everything doesn’t clump together and come out lopsided. If you keep your hand holding the flowers quite relaxed, forming a circle with your fingers and thumb, you can act as if this is the neck of a vase and just keep dropping the flowers through the circle, letting the stems cross and support each other. If this feels a bit difficult, then use a jug or vase with a narrow neck and just keep adding your foliage, fillers and flowers to it until you are happy with it. You will need to trim the stems so that all the flowers sit at roughly the same level to do it this way. Once everything is in, tie a piece of string around the neck of the vase or jug and tighten it all up. You can then take the flowers out of the vase, and you will have a hand-tied bouquet. Wrap the bouquet using brown paper to make it look really professional. Bringing together romance, luxury and understated elegance, the team of suppliers set about designing the spaces with elegant floral installations, an enchanting dessert lounge, textured velvet furniture and subtle French styling details. Pinks, purples and reds add pops of colour in the florals and balloon displays, while classic attire for both the bride and the groom ensures a timeless look. THE FAIRYTALE BEGINS For this month’s cover bride, Colette, and her groom Mike, their wedding was destined to be a fairytale experience from the moment of the proposal, but we’ll let them tell you the story: “One year to the day since we started dating, Mike took me to Chantilly Forest to a beautiful French chateau. He proposed at sunset on the balcony, it was so romantic.” Continuing the fairytale theme, the couple made the Cavalli Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa, their venue for the wedding. “I love the manicured gardens, the horses and equestrian feel, the views to the mountains and the elegance and attention to detail on the estate. It was the first place that came to mind after Mike proposed.” MADE TO MEASURE Bride Colette stunned in a bespoke dress designed by Kobus Dippenaar. “He was amazing and made me feel like a true princess,” smiles the bride. “I have been modelling for years and worked with him before, so the decision was a no-brainer. He is a wonderful friend and one of the best designers and created a dress to fit my personality, while still feeling timeless. I loved the over skirt – it made me feel so special.” TYING THE KNOT Colette and Mike married in a church ceremony at their beautiful venue. “It had rained and rained all morning and then just as we drove to the venue, the clouds parted, the sun

beamed down and the air was lovely and fresh,” remembers the bride, with the added sparkle that rain on your wedding day is said to bring good luck, too. SIP, SIP, HOORAY The couple opted to style their wedding around Champagne. “We both love bubbles and a wedding is the ultimate celebration, so we chose a palette of blush pink and gold, with Champagne cork place settings and golden chandeliers, with green and white flowers for a classic feel. Nico Laubcher from N Concepts and Designs helped a lot, we had a great understanding and he exceeded my expectations,” enthuses Colette. JET, SET, GO After celebrating their wedding in South Africa, the newlyweds jetted off to Six Senses in Oman and then on to Baros in the Maldives. “They were both amazing and very memorable,” the couple enthuse. “Our wedding was so emotional, knowing I was marrying Mike and properly settling in England together. It was a huge moment in our lives and the love and happiness was overwhelming.” WH

PAWFECT PROPOSAL It was in the charming St Mawes that groom William proposed to bride Alexandra. “Will never books holidays for us, but he’d booked this one and even arranged a day off with my boss!” smiles Alexandra. “We’d been for a long walk with our dog Bertie and Will proposed over afternoon tea. I’d gone to collect our cockapoo, who’d jumped over a wall, and returned to see the ring box on the table. The rest, as they say, is history!”

“It was amazing to see everyone we love in one room together, it felt like Christmas day!”

BEST OF THE WEST “Will was keen for a winter wedding because he hated the idea of being too hot on his wedding day. I also didn’t fancy a summer date, as I didn’t want to worry about the weather.” The couple set the date for December at their venue, Trevenna Farms. “It was the perfect venue, dog friendly and more like a wedding village as so many guests could stay with us all weekend. It was ideal as many of our family and friends were coming from afar and being able to host them felt really special. The barn we got married in was a blank slate, so we could add decorations to suit us personally,” the bride recalls. WINTER WARDROBE Despite confessing to not enjoying the dress shopping, we think this bride pulled it out the bag with her silk design with delicate spaghetti straps. “It felt so right because I felt so comfortable in it. We added a belt and a winter cape to keep me warm. Our dog whined the whole way through the ceremony (you can even hear it on the video!) because he

wanted to jump up at me, but of course I couldn’t risk that with my silk dress,” the bride laughs. SOMETHING BLUE Wanting a winter theme that didn’t shout Christmas, the couple styled their celebrations in elegant tones of silver, blue and white. “Our venue was really low effort on the organisation front, we didn’t need to do much at all. It was totally stress free and we’d definitely recommend it.” MAGICAL MOMENTS “For me, it was getting away for a little while onto the moors for some photos taken just the two of us,” smiles Alexandra. “It was a chance for us to say ‘can you believe what we’ve just done?!’ and enjoy the moment before the meal and dancing. Our wonderful photography team were fantastic, capturing and recording the wedding.” TWIN-CENTRE HONEYMOON The newlyweds jetted off to Sri Lanka and the Maldives with the help of Kuoni. When asked what they thought of it the couple had just three words: “Best holiday ever!”. WH

Having a Field Day POPPING THE QUESTION For Hannah and Henry, their engagement had all the makings of myth and legend, with the groom choosing the dramatic basalt columns of Giant’s Causeway in Northern Island to ask the all-important question. “Henry told me to look out to sea for a photo and I spotted his shadow get down on one knee. I knew this was it,” grins Hannah, before revealing “the most important thing was making sure we didn’t drop the ring on the causeway!”. FINDING THE ONE Wanting to keep her boutique experiences local, Hannah headed to several local bridal ateliers before she followed her heart to ‘the one’. “I’d put together a list of styles I’d liked online but when I got to the boutique, the dress wasn’t available to try in-store. I desperately wanted to order it as I knew it was the one. I tried on several while waiting and when the dress finally arrived, I stepped out of the dressing room with a beaming smile and said yes to the dress!” reveals Hannah. HOMESPUN HAPPINESS Playing to their strengths, the couple hosted their wedding on the family farm, with the added consideration of the annual harvest when setting the date. “We knew we’d struggle to get the whole family

away from the farm at once, so why not bring the wedding to them? It’s what I’d always wanted, even if it rained. Your wedding photos and experiences are truly unique when they’re at home, surrounded by the people, animals and landscapes you love.” The couple invited 60 guests to their ceremony, with the guest list leaping to 140 for the party into the night. “We had an open-sided marquee in the evening to balance keeping everyone safe with covid regulations and inviting as many people as possible.” COUNTRY LOVING Hannah and Henry decorated their wedding with a relaxed, rustic vibe. “Having our wedding at home gave us the freedom to do what we wanted and make decisions ourselves. WEDDING WARDROBE Bride Ruby stunned in a custom Martina Liana wedding dress, purchased at Minster Bridal Boutique. “I’d tried on multiple dresses and couldn’t find ‘the one’, the shape I wanted just wasn’t there,” the bride explains. “The owner of the boutique was amazing and had the designer put two dresses into one for me to make my dream dress. I felt every bit a bride on our wedding day. It was lovely to have the morning getting ready with my mum and bridesmaids. The whole day was surreal and beyond my expectations.” Ruby’s maid of honour and three bridesmaids joined her for her walk down the aisle, wearing pretty designs in a timeless ivory colourway. THE BIG DAY For Anthony and Ruby it was a priority to share their wedding day with all of their family and friends, so a grand scale venue was definitely on the cards. “Originally, we’d planned to get married at Lulworth Castle, but covid-19 meant rescheduling and unfortunately, they didn’t have a summer weekend available the following year. That’s when my friend recommended Came House to us – everything happens for a reason and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. It meant we could enjoy the venue for the whole wedding weekend and not only one day. We invited 110 guests.” Guests were treated to an elegant black tie theme, with Simply Gourmet cooking up a classic menu over three decadent courses for the wedding breakfast, featuring paté to start, roast chicken for the main

and cheesecake for dessert. Hosted in the grand setting of Came House with Rococo styling and chandeliers aplenty, the celebrations felt truly magical. “My planner, Melanie at Belissimo Weddings, was incredible. Nothing was too big or too small, I couldn’t have done the day without her,” Ruby smiles. THE FIRST DANCE Newlyweds Anthony and Ruby shared their first dance as husband and wife to an acoustic version of ‘Tennessee Whisky’, before The Function Band took to the stage to fill the dance floor into the small hours. “They were out of this world and definitely made the wedding!” the couple gush. “We danced all night long.” LONDON CALLING After the wedding, Ruby and Anthony swapped Dorset for London for a luxury minimoon in the capital city, with plans for a honeymoon abroad next year. Engagements Now the hard part begins

ere is a surprising fact, in America 40% of all wedding engagements occur between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day with the majority of them occurring on or around Christmas day. Why? Because it's the season of romance and the best holiday gift of all time has to be a sparkling new engagement ring! That being said, Valentine’s Day and New Year’s closely follow Christmas as the second and third most common days in which partners get down on one knee and pop the question. Just as interesting, 50% of all proposals are planned in less than a month. Last year Covid-19 affected the tradition of festive engagements, primarily due to fewer family gatherings and exciting experiences for the proposer to pull out all the stops. But, make no bones about it, we are entering into the engagement hot zone, so what you do to make it special is just as important as choosing the right ring. Not to take away from the excitement and fun of an engagement, but as soon as the couple is ready to go, the hard part and planning needs to begin right away. At Blame Her Ranch (BHR) we tell people who are newly engaged to plan their wedding at least 18 months in advance. And, to also be extremely flexible on the actual wedding date, but zero-in on the season you wish to get married. We recommend you don’t announce or communicate your wedding date until you have locked down your venue of choice. By approaching it in this manner, and by giving yourself 18 months or more to plan your wedding, you will have time to assess all the different venue options and arrange the other vendors you will need, like photographer and florists among others, to round out your wedding plans. We, at BHR, are always as helpful as we can be on all “pre” arrangements prior to the big day. This includes allowing the couple to come up to the ranch for an actual engagement ceremony. But, we also go one step further, after the couple books with us we provide the ranch and its many locations for FREE for an engagement photoshoot. Couples can use the photographs to entice wedding guests with hints about the future wedding day venue. To make your engagement time even more special, either at the ranch or at the couple’s home, we suggest the following:

1. Put the engagement ring directly on one of the ornaments of the Christmas tree and have your partner search for it. 2. Custom design a special engagement ornament to excite everyone and have as a keepsake. 3. Make the ring a special present under the tree, but keep it a secret. 4. Make the actual proposal under the Christmas lights either at your home or at BHR. 5. Put the proposal in custom-made lights (like Marry Me Linda) and flip the switch when you pull out the ring. 6. Use the Christmas stocking to pull out the ring and make the proposal in the morning. 7. Secret Santa - why not involve others and have Santa bring the ring to the proposer. 8. Customise the engagement ring. Many jewelers will allow you to customize the ring. So just buy a simple wedding band for the actual proposal and then have fun designing the final product together on Christmas morning.
