t’s a fact! All major world events like World Wars, the Great Depression, and earlier pandemics have changed human behaviour: new industries were created and new products came to dominate the marketplace. True entrepreneurs and great marketers excelled during these times and did not stick to doing business the same way as before.
BIO Linda is the owner of Blame Her Ranch which was built under her direction and design in 2007. In 2017, Linda and her husband Steve began marketing the ranch as an independent Airbnb-like location. After her daughter’s wedding, many vendors approached the Blamer’s to host weddings at their ranch based on its beauty, uniqueness, and location. And, that’s how it all started...
Even before the pandemic, couples were looking for a different wedding experience. In fact, Covid-19 simply accelerated the pace and will continue to do so as we get back to a “new normal.”

Here’s how Blame Her Ranch is responding to changing times.
DESTINATION WEDDINGS
Before the pandemic, couples were selecting venues like Blame Her Ranch because it was a clear-cut destination venue. Saturday night weddings are being replaced by venues that can offer multiple activities, a unique environment and location options for the wedding—but also rehearsal dinners, welcome dinners, bridal showers, and groom getaways. It is estimated that 25% of all weddings are now destination weddings, but the venue needs to be unique to offer a wide variety of activities for everyone staying at the ranch.
HOTELS TO AIRBNB LOCATIONS
Most people know that the Airbnb and VBRO industry has been cutting into the hotel industry over the last few years, but it has simply exploded with the pandemic as typical hotel guests are looking for safer environments. While not all Airbnbs allow for weddings and events due to their limited size and concerns about unruly guests, progressive Airbnbs (like Blame Her Ranch) are targeting couples who want safety without giving up the wedding of their dreams. Beyond safety, we also allow guests to handle catering and licensed bar service—saving considerable fees usually charged by the venue.

PRIVATE & EXCLUSIVE
The great thing about privacy and exclusivity is that you are only with those whom you invite. In Blame Her Ranch’s case, this has turned out to be a tremendous advantage, but it comes with some extra effort. We tell all our guests the great thing about Blame Her Ranch is that “it is private and exclusive” and the bad thing is “it is private and exclusive.” When you seek to have a wedding uninterrupted by others, it takes effort to make it all happen. Blame Her Ranch is 45 minutes northeast of Santa Fe so shuttle services or some extra driving is necessary. Without question, this can be a deterrent for some couples, but not for those wanting something bespoke, unique and where safety and Covid-19 concerns are addressed. One of the best compliments we get is “I am so glad I came to this wedding; I’m truly impressed with this ranch.” There is an old saying in marketing when facing a crisis, “pivot or die.” Blame Her Ranch changed its offerings in light of the pandemic, but it is also fair to say we were already heading in that direction before the first Covid case in the US. Fewer restrictions, more flexibility, and more exclusivity are what couples are asking for.

of May only 15 people can attend weddings in approved venues. From the 17th of May, weddings can take place with up to 30 people in approved Covid-19 outdoor or indoor venues.

venues. The maximum number of attendees is regulated by the venue’s capacity. Receptions are currently not allowed. If infection rates stay low, from the 26th of April, outdoor receptions with a total of 30 people will be permitted.

can attend wedding ceremonies in Northern Ireland. Although, with 15 people or more a risk assessment is required. Face masks must be worn at all times.
We chose to tie the knot in the quaint county of West Sussex, UK. We chose this location because of the beautiful scenery amongst the countryside, as well as being the place that held our dream venue. We used an app called Bridebook to find all of our local venues and Southend Barns was the first venue we ever went to see and instantly fell in love. We had always wanted a scenic wedding and this location and venue spectacularly gave us this.
WAS IT DIFFICULT TO PLAN A WEDDING DURING THE PANDEMIC?

are allowed at weddings, including the couple, witnesses and officiant. From the 26th of April, up to 50 people will be able to attend weddings. WHAT WILL WEDDINGS LOOK LIKE?
We had to face the challenge of changing our wedding venue 5 weeks before our wedding day. That was crazy! Not only did we still need to stay on budget and find somewhere we liked, we now had to find somewhere that was open and taking bookings, but also local enough for our already paid-for suppliers. Thank God this was able to be done and we went back to Southend Barns the first place we fell in love with but was originally too small for a 250 guest count. But, thanks to COVID, we were able to come back to our dream venue with our now micro wedding.
Good news! The country is gradually reopening and the plan is to celebrate restriction-free weddings by the 21st of June. And how will weddings look? We’re seeing the re-opening of non-essential shops and restaurants are welcoming back their customers. Take this time to visit your bridal boutiques and plan meetings with your wedding suppliers. The rules
WHAT WAS THE BEST MOMENT OF THE DAY?
There were so many, it’s hard to choose when you loved every moment. One part of the day we particularly loved was celebrating at our sit-down dinner with our family and friends. We got to chat and laugh with them all, as well as, remember people that were no longer with us. Knowing at that moment that all these people were joining us on our journey in marriage was a really special time. We had never felt so content.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING DURING THIS TIME?
No matter whether you are getting married right now during this pandemic or way in the future, make sure you know what’s important to you. Decide what you definitely can’t get married without and be ready to let go of what is not on that list. Planning a wedding at this time made us realise what was really in our hearts in terms of marriage. For us that was joining together as one before God, no matter the circumstance.

tied the knot surrounded by Italy’s stunning scenery

taly has brought us so many great memories over the years. We got engaged a year ago in Tuscany, and wanted to continue our Italian romance in the Amalfi Coast. It was also a great destination for our friends and family to enjoy throughout the wedding. We had visited Villa Cimbrone a few years back without knowing that it could be a wedding venue. After I had started my research, I found a lot of amazing wedding photos from the venue online, and thought that it would be a great fit. The venue has a unique balance of nature, culture, history and architecture; there’s nowhere else on earth like it. Our guests were able to stay at Villa Cimbrone’s hotel, and others stayed in local hotels and Airbnbs. The key for this destination wedding, was to send out the date early so our guests had enough time to book their trip. Our colour palette was inspired by the Italian summer sun and the bright colours of the Amalfi Coast. We also worked with a florist who was familiar with our venue, and this helped a lot. We made sure that our florals and lighting complimented the natural/architectural beauty of the venue. We were able to use Villa Cimbrone’s natural scenery as our backdrop, and this helped us to cut back on décor expenses. And we also saved money by going green and using digital invitations, instead of conventional paper cards. My dress was Lee Petra Grebenau. I tried on as many dresses as possible in different bridal shops, so I could narrow down the ones that fit my body and style best. It’s important to research the wedding venue beforehand, to make sure that your style of dress fits the venue and size of your wedding. As it was a destination wedding, the dress that I chose had to be easy to carry in my luggage as well. A piece of advice I would give to couples planning a destination wedding would be to start early. Make sure your guests have enough time to plan their trip and have a good experience. A good local wedding planner can bridge all potential gaps too.

W
e were fortunate to have our wedding sponsored by WedReady. With their selected vendors, we had the wedding of our dreams on the stunning Smitsfield Farm. Just after our engagement, we had a terrible car crash, and it did take time for the both of us to recover from it. Our story travelled across South Africa and WedReady helped us plan the most magical wedding ever. As soon as the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, we went ahead with our wedding schedule. We chose our favourite colours, which are dark and moody. The stationery, décor and flowers experts advised us on how to bring the maroons, black, and metallics together with soft blushes and textures. The venue was very spacious, so they created some height on the tables and large welcome signs to fill up the big space. For our cake, we chose a kintsugi design, the Japanese technique of joining broken vases with gold, highlighting the breaks rather than hiding them; this represented our journey together from the accident to our beautiful wedding day. My look reflected the ambience of our big day. I love darker shades of makeup that accentuate the eyes, and my makeup artist knew exactly how to deliver that. I also wanted some lace details on my dress and a shape that suited my body type. Shane immediately knew that his suit was the one the first time he tried it on. We had quite a long guest list, so we needed to find additional accommodations around the venue. As it is a small-town destination for weddings, we did struggle a bit to find multiple accommodations near Smitsfield. But with some help from Helene, owner of Smitsfield, we managed to book places to stay for everyone. To all the couples struggling to plan their weddings, we’d like to suggest using an app like WedReady to keep all your planning information and checklists in one place, as it can be stressful to remember all the details without an organised platform.

exchanged vows amid Tuscany’s natural beauty
W
e always knew we wanted to get married in the sunshine. We initially considered the Amalfi coast, but when we spent a week in Tuscany for my mum’s 60th birthday, we completely fell in love. We saw around 3-4 places before arriving at family-run Castello Di Vicarello, and immediately knew it was the one. We didn’t have a wedding planner throughout the whole process, so it helped that it was a one-stop-shop. There was no need to dress the venue thanks to its impeccably styled interiors. The vegetable garden provided beautiful surroundings for our aisle, and the chef created the most incredible gala dinner for us with organic produce from the estate. We hired the venue for two nights, and had our welcome dinner, wedding ceremony and reception there. We got married in late September, so I wanted to base my colour palette on the seasonal flowers. Lots of dusty pinks, muted oranges and fresh greens. The owners have incredible taste and have filled each room in the castle with antique furniture and artwork that they had collected on their travels over the years. Our wedding ceremony and dinner were both outside, so the views were incredible from all angles. Fairy lights and lanterns lit pathways and were hung above the long table. It was understated but really beautiful. The wedding venue only had 9 rooms, so could only really accommodate family members. The rest of our wedding party stayed at Podere Carceroni, a lovely B&B just a while away. We had a set budget to begin with, but as most couples will tell you, you will almost always go beyond that. Renting our venue for two nights took almost half of our budget alone, so I’d say we had to just be a bit more sensible when it came to the smaller details. As a stylist I knew finding a wedding dress was going to be particularly hard – I changed my mind about a thousand times when I was looking for references, going from very structural styles to floaty, bohemian ones. I tried on around 30 dresses, liking some details, and disliking others, and it wasn’t until I met with a friend who had got married the year before me, that I considered having my dress made. She introduced me to the lovely Emma Beaumont and the rest as they say, is history. We discussed ideas and Emma sketched away, and then over the course of a year created the dress of my dreams. It was a labour of love and so totally worth it. A piece of advice I would give to anyone planning a destination wedding, would be don’t sweat the small stuff. You will be on cloud nine the entire weekend, so the little touches and details that you stress over to organise just won’t matter.

’m originally from Dallas, Texas and Aaron is from Missouri, so to make it fair for everyone we chose to make our wedding a destination celebration. So that all our friends and family would have to travel, and they could make it into a fun vacation getaway. We always knew we wanted to have an outdoor wedding, with amazing weather and beachside views. We also got engaged on a trip to San Diego, so California holds a special place in our hearts. We had both our ceremony and reception at La Venta Inn, which made it a lot easier on our outof-town guests. We toured several venues and hotels spanning from the LA area to San Diego however, we fell in love with the privacy and charm of La Venta Inn. It was perfect for our intimate outdoor wedding. I was very fortunate that my mom had been saving for my wedding since I was born, so I had a very generous budget. I did have help from my wedding planner, the lovely Susan Dunne, to keep certain costs down. We also repurposed a lot of our wedding décor for the ceremony and reception as well. We chose to go with a black and white theme, for the colour palette. I’m not the biggest fan of colour and the monochromatic scheme worked well with the sprawling ocean views and gorgeous gardens of La Venta. My overall aesthetic was a romantic classic garden feel. We used black and white décor with touches of glass and clear acrylic, greenery, a mixture of white flowers, and lots of candles. The venue was so charming and very easy to decorate. For my wedding dress, I chose a very classic Monique Lhuillier satin A-line/ball gown from Nordstrom. I wanted a dress that would stand the test of time and that I would not look back on and say “what was I thinking”. My one piece of advice I would give to couples getting married would be to definitely get a wedding planner; I do not know what I would have done without Susan. Also be sure to pick vendors you really like and trust.

Days melt from one to the next in the Greek Islands, and as the sun begins to fall, it’s the perfect time to wander into town to fuel up on fresh Greek cuisine. The succulent flavours of crumbled feta drizzled with homemade olive oil, cooling dips of tzatziki and typical mains of moussaka and fresh seafood will win you over in a heartbeat. Just follow the winding cobbled streets into the local square to find a vibrant pocket of restaurants known as ‘tavernas’ and street vendors selling their local wares to the pleasant thrum of live music. Steeped in ancient history and enticing mythical tales, each island captures the imagination and has an identity of its own. Whether you’re looking for peaceful seclusion, all-day activities or a varied itinerary for your destination wedding and honeymoon, Greek island hopping is a spellbinding way to conquer lots of unique places in one go. We’ve rounded up six must-visit Greek Islands to ignite your wanderlust as you plan the trip of a lifetime.
SANTORINI
Bright blue church domes and whitewashed buildings come together in perfect harmony on this famous Cyclades island. It’s a beautiful Greek island with world-famous sunsets and characterful coastal towns like Fira and Oia built into the cliffside edge. Engaged couples and honeymooners are naturally drawn here for its panoramic sea views, cave-like hotels that are carved into the rock face and jaw-dropping beaches with black, red and white volcanic pebbles. Santorini’s recognisable crescent shape was formed by a colossal volcanic eruption around 1600 BC, which left behind a deep ocean crater and a circular ring of island outcrops. These consist of Santorini, Therasia, Aspronisi and the uninhabited Kameni
islands in the centre. The ancient caldera has inspired stories of the lost continent of the Atlantis, as many believe that it was flooded during the explosion. To find out more about the island’s ancient buried settlements, visiting the Akrotiri Archeological Site makes an interesting cultural excursion. Ascending to the top of the volcano at Nea Kameni island is another popular activity in the Santorini archipelago. Visitors can board a boat from the Old Port in Fira and join a hiking tour to the crater. You’ll pass extraordinary lava formations, smoking ash and sulfurous hot springs. Finish your day with a worthy stop off at Santo Wines in Pyrgos village, a heritage winery where you can explore the cellars and taste authentic wines that are cultivated on volcanic terroir.
CRETE
Crete is the largest Greek island located at the southern edge of the Aegean Sea. Its super-size means that it has an impressive total of 650 miles of coastline, so you’re bound to get a slice of beach paradise to yourselves on your honeymoon getaway. Some of the most scenic include Balos beach, Vai beach and Elafonisi beach. Across Crete, you’ll discover archaic civilisations, romantic Venetian-style towns and calm crystal clear waters. Crete is blessed with a rich history that dates back 4,000 years and it is often quoted as the birthplace of the first advanced European society. Excavations have revealed evidence of the Minoan people, who traded agricultural products and set up an advanced urban planning system that was destroyed in the tsunami following Santorini’s catastrophic volcanic eruption.

Knossos Palace was the beating heart of the civilisation and it remains one of Crete’s most important archaeological sites. In between the tourist hotspots in the north and the secluded bays in the south, there are some mesmerising mountainous landscapes to discover in Crete. The dramatic 16km long Samaria gorge is a hiking highlight and officially the longest gorge in Europe. It’s a haven for wildlife, which makes the six-hour trek a one of a kind experience. Remember to bring plenty of water and a hearty picnic lunch to enjoy en route.
CORFU
Corfu offers everything you could want from a Mediterranean escape: warm sunshine, superb beaches, unspoilt mountain landscapes and characterful towns laced with antiquity. Tourism is the cornerstone of Corfu’s economy and the modern-day island is built around leisure and hospitality. The capital has a cosmopolitan feel mixed with architectural windows into its colonial past, including the Old Venetian Fortress and the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George, which make up part of the Corfu Old Town UNESCO World Heritage Site. The labyrinth of Greek cobbled streets and vaulted passageways are called ‘kantounia’ and getting lost in them is an amazing way to stumble across urban treasures like the Spianada square in the city centre. To the south of Corfu Town, the Kanoni lookout point is a popular viewing spot where you can gaze over the emblematic 17th century Vlacherna Monastery on its rocky outpost and Mouse Island. Royal enthusiasts will find the Mon Repos Palace an intriguing museum to visit, as it was the official birthplace of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II. It’s a small but imposing colonial-style residence on the top of Analipsis hill, surrounded by lush manicured parkland where you can enjoy a romantic afternoon stroll after your palace tour.

RHODES
Rhodes is a timeworn tapestry of fascinating ancient civilisations that is often called ‘Knights Island’. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rhodes Old Town is one of the highlights of the island, home to the Palace of the Grand Master. This Byzantine fortress was built at the end of the 7th Century A.D and later modified by the Knights of St John during their 213-year reign. It’s now a museum that tells the story of its rich past, so it’s a worthy visit if you’d like to delve into medieval history. Another cherished attraction is the Valley of the butterflies, just 25km from Rhodes Old Town. Stroll through beautiful forests and tranquil glades to spot large volumes of rare butterflies such as the Panaxia Quadripunctaria. The 600-acre nature reserve has a magical atmosphere, with lush vegetation, waterfalls, bridges over trickling streams and cleverly laid out walking trails so you can see the best parts during your visit. Further south, the picturesque town of Lindos is characterised by the imposing Acropolis overlooking sugar cube-like houses that trickle down into the turquoise bay. Climbing up Monte Smith Hill is the journey to one of the most vital centres of worship, education and recreation in ancient Rhodes. Whilst the archaeological site is made up of ruins today, the music hall, temple, stadium, gymnasium and library give a glimpse into the grandeur of its past.
MYKONOS
For a touch of resort-style glamour, Mykonos is Greece’s answer to St Tropez. Whilst the clubbing scene at Paradise Beach and Super Paradise Beach is known to be one of the best in the Mediterranean, the island itself feels unspoiled, with winding lanes that snake up the hillside to meet the five windmills of Kato Mili. These iconic structures are best seen in the morning when the streets are quiet, the climate is cooler and the sunrise begins to blaze over the rooftops.
Destinations Some of the most memorable parts of the Mykonos are the authentic streets of Chora and Little Venice along the waterfront, where bright blue doors and cascades of bougainvillaea provide photo opportunities from every angle. In Mykonos, you’ll always find new high-end boutiques, peaceful restaurant terraces and up and coming hotels with curved Cycladic architecture. Or, for a romantic evening under the stars, head to Cine Manto in Mykonos Town, where a vibrant garden reveals a large outdoor cinema.
GREECE
Mykonos boasts 25 beaches in total, so there are plenty of lesserknown bays to enjoy away from the buzz of peak season crowds. By evening, as the heat begins to fade, a 5pm boat from the Old Port can take you to the sacred island of Delos. This 5,000-yearold World Heritage Site unearths the relics of amphitheatres, public squares, market places and sculptures, and the area is said to be the birthplace of the Greek Gods, Apollo and Artemis.

Step back in time to this quiet, carless island just a two-hour ferry ride from Athens. It’s popular with high society Greek nationals who are craving a dose of coastal calm away from the stifling heat of the mainland. Like a scene from a fairytale, horse-drawn carriages transport visitors along the cobbled promenades and there’s a noticeably slower pace of life. When it’s a hit with the locals, you know it’s an island gem worth going to. Along the waterfront, dazzling yachts line the marinas and sophisticated restaurants spill out onto manicured terraces, where you can sit and watch the world go by. Some of the best hotels, including the Poseidonion Grand Hotel, are found here too, with its grand facade and ocean views. On its jetty, an impressive sight takes place each September to memorialise a heroic naval battle that took place in the 19th century. As part of the weeklong Armata festival, a wooden ship is destroyed in a dramatic firework display, which draws visitors from far and wide. The top beaches in Spetses include Ayia Paraskevi, Agia Marina, Agioi Anargiri and Kaiki beach, as they are known for their crystalline waters, great watersport facilities and quaint little churches on the sand. Couples can easily spend their days hopping from one beach to the next... you might even come across the hidden Bekiri Cave with its stalactites and streams of sunlight that turn the water into an exquisite shade of blue-green.

My company’s story goes back 18 years. I created Only For You when event planning in Greece only meant being a party coordinator. Working as an art director and stylist for Madame Figaro meant rubbing shoulders with incredibly talented people and attending many events that lacked curated design. I felt there was a gap in the market to be filled. Hesitation doesn’t characterize me, so I jumped right in. From the first wedding I designed, the idea was to meld tenets of décor, artistry, and fashion expertise with razor-sharp organization. That made Only For You stand-out and still does.

HOW DOES THE PLANNING PROCESS BEGIN? HOW DO YOU PUT THE PARTS IN MOTION?
Before anything turns into an outline, I always aim to connect with my clients. I want them to see a side of their own story they’ve never seen before, but one that has always been there waiting to be interpreted. We begin with an idea and then have lots of conversations about it. I like to study hard, go into exhaustive research, and engage with every little detail right from the start because the whereabouts, the history, the artistic and developmental aspects of each destination are so different. Eventually, that turns into a long and detailed outline. I want to make something that they’ll be very passionate about because of the time and emotional investments that go into creating a statement wedding celebration.

HOW DID YOU COPE WITH THE 2020 CRISIS?
2020 brought quite the strong winds, so my best response was to tinker with the sails, constantly being present and courageous for the people who trust me. We may be entrepreneurs, but at the same time, we are artists, and that is a huge responsibility. The way we react and how we paint the picture, especially because weddings and events are so personal, are observed and absorbed. People will make decisions about their future based on how they see themselves represented and supported, so we must keep them safeguarded. I worked non-stop to ensure my clients had all the support they needed.

THE BIGGEST EVENT YOU HAVE WORKED ON?
Size-wise, it was a 700-guest wedding outside Greece for a celebrity couple whose pre, and post-wedding events spanned over 4 days. But in my books, it’s hardly about how big a wedding is, it’s about the extent a team will go for it. The idea is to balance beauty with reality, the devotion to style with resourcefulness, and foresight with incubation. My couples, their love, and their experiences come first. And this is why, even my most intimate event is the biggest.

She reveals the story of this historic retreat in southern France and why it makes a stunning and versatile venue for destination weddings once travel corridors open again.
SO MORAG, TELL US MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF LOU CASTEOU?
Lou Casteou is a traditional château that was built in 1904 by Lord Amherst who was a famous British aristocrat, military man and member of parliament, who helped to fund Howard Carter’s excavation of Tutankhamun’s tomb. He was a very interesting and colourful individual who collected antiques, and as a result, the residence is full of unique features. He built the château in Fréjus for the benefits of the warm healthy air in the winter so he could take his family there. We found it in ruins so we’ve restored it to its full beauty. We even uncovered the original fountains, fireplaces and his family plaque, so the place is steeped in history.
WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER THE CHÂTEAU AND HOW DOES IT MEET YOUR VISION?
I have always been into healthy living, fitness and wellbeing, so my husband and I were looking for a project to create a place where holidaymakers and wedding couples could celebrate and get active in a beautiful sunny destination. We wanted a warm location with fine wines, good food, tons of

sport and a great quality of life. I searched for properties for almost two years and we identified the south of France because of the natural beauty, good year-round climate and easy flight from many places around the world. Lou Casteou is only 45 minutes from Nice airport, yet it feels completely secluded. It ticked all the right boxes and was just what we were looking for.
DID YOU NEED TO RENOVATE PROPERTY WHEN YOU BOUGHT IT?
THE
The property and gardens were very damaged when we purchased it, so it required a huge renovation project. It took time to get the planning and we worked with a series of architects and builders to finalise the design. The project was very challenging both legally and logistically, but it was an exciting and worthwhile opportunity. Before we bought it, the château had been empty for more than thirty years and there was a lot of damage. For example, there were only two bathrooms and the bedrooms weren’t fully weightbearing, so a lot of construction was needed to make it safe. I left my previous job to manage the renovation full time and I’ve now been holding weddings, corporate, fitness and dance events for the past six years.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WEDDING LOOK LIKE AT LOU CASTEOU?
To marry in France you need to be living there for a minimum of three months, but if you have a family connection, there is a lovely local English church nearby. Otherwise, you can have a blessing in the beautiful south-facing gardens by the pool, or some like to create a slightly more formal area in the atmospheric Cloisters. After the ceremony, couples like to use the Pool Gardens or the covered gallery area in the Cloisters for champagne drinks and dinner. There are also three big air-conditioned reception rooms inside that link together, which are great for dancing. Music must end outside at midnight but you can continue the party inside!

WHAT IS THE OPTIMUM CAPACITY FOR WEDDINGS AT LOU CASTEOU?
We have the license for up to 150 guests, but I think a total number of 90 works well to give everyone plenty of space. There are 15 beautiful bedrooms with sea or mountain views so 30 guests can be accommodated in great luxury and style. We require a minimum stay of two nights and there are also plenty of hotels in the nearby area. We’ve partnered with a chauffeur to arrange pick-ups and dropoffs for guests staying elsewhere.
WHAT CATERING OPTIONS CAN YOU PROVIDE?
We have a special banqueting kitchen and can recommend some brilliant local chefs to cater for your wedding. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to bring your own chef, wines and champagne. We like to be as flexible as possible to suit your taste and budget. The produce in the local region is simply delicious, including fresh vegetables, superb cheese, pâté and local fish that is caught just 5 minutes away. The Provence region is also well known for its excellent white wines and rosé. It’s even possible for the chefs to bring parmesan and Parma ham over from Italy as the property is not far from the border.
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE AVAILABLE NEARBY?
The area is so rich, as Lou Casteou is halfway between Cannes and St Tropez and a 5-minute drive from the beach. It’s situated in a national park so it’s an amazing place to go hiking, trekking or mountain biking with a local guide. There are some brilliant golf courses and tennis clubs close by, and on the beach, you have sailing and other watersport activities. The local town called Fréjus is a very traditional Provence style town with good restaurants and local markets and it’s easy to catch a boat to St Tropez. If there are any particular activities you’d like to book, we’ve got a whole host of contacts to organise an itinerary for you, including wine tasting, tennis clinics, golf, salsa, yoga, trekking, painting, or sea kayaking.
WHAT’S THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO BOOK A WEDDING AT LOU CASTEOU?
It can get up to 35 degrees in the summer, so I would recommend the slightly cooler months of May, June, September and October. The weather is still glorious in winter, so something intimate works beautifully and the prices are considerably lower in the off season.
WHAT MAKES LOU CASTEOU A STANDOUT CHOICE FOR DESTINATION WEDDINGS?
Lou Casteou is one of the most private venues in the area as it’s surrounded by a national park, yet it’s only 45 minutes from the airport. The scenery is breathtaking for photographs as you have the countryside, the mountains and the beach all around. fter selecting the venue, the wedding photographer should be second on the priority list.
Most people would think catering, cocktails, and the wedding gown would take preference, but given that the photographer controls so much and the output lasts for years and years, we can safely say getting this right is critically important. Before sitting down to look at a photographer’s work, there are three very important decisions you need to make and understand regarding the selection process. PRE OR POST WEDDING PHOTOSHOOT As a couple, you need to decide if you are prepared to do a “pre or post” wedding photography session. We will tell you based on our personal and professional experience, having a three-or-four-hour separate photography session is critically important. Yes, it may cost you a few extra dollars, but you will get a more focused photographer and more unique locations to widen the breadth and distinctiveness of your wedding spectrum. WHY? Without a special photography session before/after the wedding, you are pretty much limited to the area and space where activities are taking place. Here at Blame Her Ranch, we are lucky enough to have over 1,600 acres with some breathtaking views and locations that take extra time to get to. We do not charge extra fees for the couple to come back on a date of their choosing to have an additional three to four-hour session with their photographer. A lot of wedding venues would not offer an “extra” free photography location within their packages, but it takes very little effort on their part, and therefore, the couple should ask. FIND YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SOULMATE Each photographer we have seen at the ranch basically falls into two categories. One is the classic more portraitlike photographer and the second is more journalistic in style and tends to capture events as they unfold. This is where you need to sit down and understand their background, what school of photography they went to, and of course, see their work. Don’t be afraid to ask the tough question: how would you characterize your photography style? Then, let the photographer know the critical shots that are instrumental in providing a complete representation of your wedding.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY Do you sense that there is a good “click” between you and the photographer? Chemistry and communication are essential. You need to feel comfortable that the photographer is willing to listen, but also not to be afraid of pushing back and even argue with you to make sure his/her professional insights are fully taken advantage of. Conflict contributes to great creativity. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION We at Blame Her Ranch are fortunate to have many different photography locations, but all weddings and locations are different. So, it is important when selecting your venue, that you look beyond the basics and ask the Venue Manager about other locations nearby or on the property that can be used for your photography session, during the wedding event, or pre and post, if you go with that idea. eddings have been a big part of my life for quite some time now, and throughout my career in the wedding industry, I have come across beautiful love stories, amazing couples, exotic destination weddings and luxury venues that I’d love to share with you. My journey started 15 years ago, and since then I’ve been transforming events into memorable moments by using my knowledge and expertise. In this issue, we’ll cover the significance of garden roses - the perfect flowers for a romantic wedding.
GARDEN ROSES
Because flowers are a major part of any event, I studied them fully. This took me deeper into the world of floristry. The flowers I’m talking about are generically known as garden roses. There are hundreds of varieties of garden roses to choose from, and only a professional florist can help you pick the right one for your event.
O’HARA GARDEN ROSE
For all of you who desire and dream about having the perfect event, I will share with you a
story about a fabulously scented garden rose, created in France by Pépinières et Roseraies Georges Delbard, available in two colours: ivory-blush and soft pink. The breeders came up with the name when they saw the beautiful dress with multiple layers on the actress Scarlet O’Hara in the movie Gone with the Wind. The shape of their garden rose reminded them of the elegant and beautiful white dress from the movie. The shape of the flower is very romantic, so that’s why White O’Hara or Pink O’Hara roses are perfect for weddings.

This rose variety is a perfect garden rose that portrays unparalleled beauty and romance. Of course, this type of rose can be used for other events as well. As an alternative, you can just buy a bunch of these strong-scented beauties to display in your office or at home, to brighten up the atmosphere and fill it with fresh perfume.
Even though the O’Hara rose was created in France, farms that grow roses for the cut flower markets are now growing and selling these two varieties worldwide. Farms from Kenya, Equator, Colombia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, The Netherlands, Australia, and China have licensees for producing and distributing Georges Delbard’s roses. So, wherever your wedding or your special event will take place, you can access these amazing flowers through your florist or your wedding agency.
